Minutes from the March 14, 2006 Home & School Association Meeting

Father Lawrence opened with a prayer.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Beth Bossert opened the meeting thanking Michele Haberstroh and Felecia Knowlton for preparing a game and the food for the evening.  She then turned the meeting over to Felicia to start the St. Patrick’s Day trivia game.

Bonnie Reich presented Java Joe’s Roasting Company coffee on-going fundraising program as a new option for us to reach our financial goal to help with the school operating expenses.  There was a positive response to starting out with the coffee as a regular fundraiser and then continually take reorders and possibly have a stand at the Market House as well.  We will plan to start the coffee sales in April.

Beth Bossert then introduced the nominees for Vice President:  Michele Kelly, Rita Herr and Kerrie Kraft.  The Ballot will be in the family envelope.  Also, Kelly Brommer has accepted the position of Secretary for Home & School.

The meeting was then turned over to Mrs. Burg to discuss the school’s upcoming 10th Anniversary in the 2007/2008 school year as Our Lady of the Angels.  We are putting together a committee to plan events to celebrate.  It was suggested that we start the celebration with the 8th grade graduating class in 2007 since they are the first class to attend Our Lady of the Angels Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Rose Uniform has sent us, at cost, all OLA uniforms they had left over.  The school is selling them at cost.

We will be piloting a new report card for the Diocese.  Parents will be asked the review them in the 2006/2007 school year.

The parent handbook will be in the front of the students’ homework journal starting with  the 2006/2007 school year so that it can be updated more regularly at a reduced cost from printing a separate booklet.

School Planning will be headed by Cheryl Grab this year.  Let Mrs. Burg know if you would like to be on a Focus Group to help with the planning.

AOL has blocked emails coming from OLA email addresses due to someone using our addresses to send spam mail and possible viruses.  Mrs. Burg and Mrs. Carey are working with AOL to rectify the problem.

The meeting was then returned to Beth Bossert to discuss Fundraisers and a possible ‘Buyout’ from participating in fundraisers.

A long discussion on pros and cons of introducing a ‘Buyout’ resulting in leaving things as they are at this time and we will discuss at the May meeting what fundraisers we would like to continue with and which ones we may want to emphasize more so that we do not need to have so many to help with operating expenses with the school.

Our fundraisers are essential to the continuing education of our children at Our Lady of the Angels.  Participation in the Home & School Association meetings is encouraged to get your thoughts and ideas on the table to continue events and fundraisers and make changes.  All parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

A suggestion was make to just add a ‘buy a dress down day’ to our calendar.  It is still under discussion.

We started tracking fundraiser participation and will continue with better documentation as to who participates in which fundraisers next year.

We offer the Poinsettia/Wreath Sale and Pie Sale as a convenience more than a fundraiser.  It will be presented that way next year.

A suggestion was made to look into directly attaching fundraiser participation with tuition costs.  This would be a school board issue.

We will vote on fundraisers at the May meeting.

The 2nd Quarter Scrip Tuition Voucher Drawing was done and the winner is Hope Hoffmaster!!  Congratulations.

We will advertise the drawing more and it was suggested that maybe we should make it that one must be present to win.  We are trying to encourage more attendance and participation at the Home and School Meetings!!

The meeting was adjourned and everyone enjoyed the wonderful refreshments prepared by Felicia Knowlton and Michele Haberstroh.

A special Thank You to Jill Hartman for the donation of the game prizes!
