September 12, 2006 Home & School Association Meeting-Elementary Building

Beth
Bossert, President called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Burg
opened the meeting with a prayer.
Mrs. Burg welcomed everyone
for coming to the first meeting and for coming to learn more about the new
Grade Report, formerly know as the Report Card.
In attendance to assist Mrs. Burg with her PowerPoint presentation
were: Dianne Giampietro, Immaculate
Conception, New Oxford and Livia Riley, Diocese of Harrisburg, Assistant
Superintendent.
wOnly 5 schools in the Diocese have
been selected to pilot the new Grade Report.
This system is designed to inform all of the growth and progress of our
children throughout the school year.
wTwo years of research were given to
the Grade Report through: teacher survey, assessment meetings with
Robert Marzano, professional
development with Thomas Guskey, grade report draft revisions and here we are
today with the pilot year
schools. Other phases of the process are
Staff Development and Parental
Involvement through meetings and
surveys.
WHAT’S NEW?
Trimester – 3 times a year; 12
weeks per marketing period
Work reflects ability or beyond
Special Classes-will receive
Letter Grades (Art, Physical Education, etc.)
Narrative Box-instructional
goals and progress of your child

RATIONALE:
wMultiple pieces-including, but not
limited to: newsletters, periodic progress reports, portfolio reviews,
alternative assessments, parent
conferences, standardized testing and weekly work folders.
MARKING CODE:
Kindergarten and Primary all
Grade Reports marked: S=Satisfactory, IP=In Progress
Intermediate all Grade Reports
marked: A, B, C, D, F for Major Subjects

here to show the children’s GROWTH and PROGRESS throughout the school
year!

Mrs. Riley, the Assistant
Superintendent for the Diocese of Harrisburg applauded Mrs. Burg for her
dedication
and commitment to our children
and her work with the Grade Report development.
Bridge Bust
is Saturday, October 7th and will be chaired by Bonnie Reich. Flyers will be going out shortly for
donations.
Volunteer
Sign Up Sheets were available to anyone interested in helping at H&S
events.
Bonnie Reich
is in charge of Script this year.
Halloween
Parade is Thursday, October 26th and our float will be chaired by
Barb Katalinas and Jennifer Kirchner.
This year’s theme is “Spirit of America”. Felicia Knowlton will assist
them with flyers and more information to follow regarding our school
float. Also, H&S will have the Sub
Sale chaired by Kelly Brommer and Julie Brommer. The subs will be delivered on
Thursday, October 26th.
There will
be a Homeroom Parent meeting held on Monday, September 25, 2006 from 7:00-8:00
EB. Invites will be sent to all Homeroom
Parents to attend.
The New
Volunteer Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 PB. The video will last 37 minutes, TB testing
will be available and paperwork will be handed out.
Each
chairperson will be given forms to complete on all events they chair. Kelly Brommer is creating a fundraiser binder
for all H&S events so we have a reference for all to utilize. She will hand out and contact you for this
paperwork.

sheet posted for anyone interested in bring refreshments to our meetings.
