BULLYING

I have enclosed a copy of our bullying policy in this envelope. Please take the time to talk with your child about this important issue. One of the concerns is the cyber bullying that occurs and there can be school consequences as mentioned in the Internet Policy you and your child signed.

PICNIC

A very special thank you goes to the Birthday Committee who worked so hard to make our Birthday Picnic a success. Their dedication and commitment to Our Lady of the Angels School help to make us SHINE.

A BIRTHDAY THANK YOU

Joe Nobile’s family had named Our Lady of the Angels School as a memorial when he died last year. They have asked that we place those donations in the Birthday Fund. We are very grateful to them and as they said Joe enjoyed a good party so this would be appropriate. Thank You!

MRS. WICKENHEISER-ROACH

Mrs. Wickenheiser –Roach resigned her position at Our Lady of the Angels on August 20th. We wish her all the best as she begins her new journey.

FORGOTTEN LUNCHES

ShineWhen you indicate on the menu that your child is going to pack and for some reason they forget, you will be called to bring them their lunch. If this occurs on a regular basis (once a week or more) you will be asked to either buy all the time or pack all the time. We are not doing this to cause problems but for record keeping purposes and the time involved. I appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

SCHOOL CONCERNS

It is very important that there be complete unity in authority between the teacher and parent. It is also important to withhold judgment on what appears to be a grievance until you get all the facts.

1. Get your facts from the proper

     person.

2. Classroom teachers appreciate being

called first when a problem becomes

     known.

3. Discuss your problem with the proper

person. In most cases, the concern will

be resolved with little difficulty. This

act of courtesy will be greatly

    appreciated.

4. Should the above steps leave the

     concern unresolved, a conference

with the principal may be requested.

  WELLNESS POLICY

In accordance with the Federal guidelines we have adopted a Wellness Policy. This was required by the government because we have the government funded lunch program. We all want our children to be fit and healthy and this is our initiative to assist parents with this aspect of their child’s life. The policy is to be adopted over a three year period. During this second year we ask that you think healthy when sending food to school and consider fresh fruits and vegetables. This is especially essential if you are packing your child’s lunch. The faculty has been asked not to use food as rewards and make every effort to assure a minimum of food with added sugar when planning celebrations. One simple guideline is that the first ingredient in any food should not be any of the following:

  • Brown sugar          Invert sugar
  • Corn Sweetener    Lactose*
  • Corn Syrup            Maltose*
  • Dextrose                Malt Syrup
  • Fructose *              Molasses
  • Glucose*                 Raw Sugar
  • Sucrose                   Sugar
  • High fructose corn syrup
  • Honey                    Syrup

*(naturally occurring will not show up on food ingredient list unless added and will be included as “sugars” listed on the food label)

Our cafeteria has always abided by the federal guidelines when preparing the lunch menu.

Let’s try to do what is best for our children.

COGNITIVE ABILITY TEST

During the week of September 30th students in grades 5 and 8 will be taking the Cogat. This is a standardized test that all Diocesan schools administer. The results tell us the abilities of the students not the achievement.

VOLUNTEERS

All volunteers at Our Lady of the Angels School must have the following on file:

  • Signed form that they have viewed the Diocesan video
  • State Police Check (online)
  • Child Line Check

(Form on the Diocesan website                         www.hbgdiocese.org)

  • TB test results
  • Disclosure Statement

If you would like to volunteer and need any of the above, there will be a meeting on Tuesday October 9th at 7PM at the Primary Building. Mrs. Danielle Kemmerly has graciously volunteered again this year to provide the TB testing. If you have the TB test administered, you will need to return on Thursday October 11th to be checked.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

This is an afternoon of fun for the children. It is scheduled for October 26th. It will be at the Elementary Building. Watch for more information in your Friday Folders.

NO SCHOOL

There is no school on Wednesday September 26th. The teachers will be attending the Diocesan in-service. Also there will be no school on Friday October 5th,  teachers have a Middle States in service, and Monday October 8th in observance of Columbus Day.

EARRINGS

Students are not to wear jewelry when participating in gym class. We do understand that some girls may have just had their ears pierced and there have been some questions. I ask that if this situation arises, the parent write a note indicating when the child will be able to remove the earrings and that you release the school from all responsibility resulting in injuries that may occur with respect to wearing the earrings. I hope this will answer the questions that have been asked. Girls are only permitted to wear one pair of conservative earrings and that is one in each ear.

No flip flops or crocs

The safety of the students comes first so it is important that the shoes they wear to school provide that safety. Students are not to wear open toe shoes, shoes without a back or any other style that may cause them to fall or slip. This includes but is not limited to flip flops and crocs.

A “Birthday Celebration”

Our Lady of the Angels School is celebrating their 10th Birthday and have  planned many events for this “special” occasion.  If anyone wishes to make a monetary donation to the school to help support these plans we would greatly appreciate it.  Here are just a few items we are working on:

  • Bus trip to Philadelphia, the birth place of our nation.
  • Dinner/Dance
  • In school activities such as, festivals, movie & bingo night, concert, etc.
  • T-shirt for the children to wear throughout the school year on special events.
  • School banner, buttons, special letterhead, etc.

Please send your donation to the school office in an envelope marked “OLA’s 10th Birthday Celebration”.  We continue to keep our parish and school families in our prayers and truly appreciate the support given to our school.  May God Bless you.
